Eligibility

The seniors’ discount is available to individuals aged 65 and over who reside in the Province of Alberta. The senior MUST be 65 years of age at the time of service.

The seniors’ discount is available to seniors for personal motor vehicles, personal land title search services and personal vital statistic services. Personal services are services not related to any commercial or business interest.

Also available to agents acting on behalf of a senior. (e.g. the living spouse of a deceased spouse) for motor vehicles and vital statistic services (excludes land title transactions). Services obtained on behalf of an eligible senior are discounted if the senior is eligible for the discount. A designated agent can request a seniors' discount on behalf of an individual if the individual being represented is aged 65 years or older, a resident of Alberta, and is an eligible applicant for a seniors' discount.
• In accordance with motor vehicle policy, certain motor vehicle transactions cannot be discounted if requested by an authorized representative. The eligible senior must apply in-person at a registry agent office, registry agent online sites, or online at MyAlberta eServices to obtain the discount.

Note that land titles transactions cannot be discounted if requested by an authorized representative. The eligible senior must apply in- person at a registry agent office or online to receive the discount.

The seniors’ discount is available to seniors who are part of a group accessing a service (e.g. joint vehicle registration with a spouse)

​The seniors’ discount is available to eligible seniors taking a road test.
Exclusions

The seniors' discount does not apply to corporate and business services, personal property services, commercial vehicle registrations or optional products such as personalized and specialty licence plates. Farm vehicles are commercial vehicles and are not eligible.

Seniors' discounts will not be applied to services that are tied to punitive measures, or to enforcing traffic safety (e.g., fines, ignition interlock and restricted licence applications).

Optional services such as personalized and specialty licence plates are excluded from the discount as these are considered non-essential products (e.g., Support Our Troops, Oilers, and Flames).

Why are farm vehicles excluded?Alberta farmers can choose to register any of their vehicles as passenger vehicles or farm vehicles. All farm vehicles are considered commercial registrations.

If a person is turning 65 tomorrow, can they get the Senior’ Discount today?No. The discount can only be applied to persons aged 65 or older at the time of service.

If a person was not 65 when they paid for a service but have since turned 65, can they get the Senior’s Discount applied retroactively?No. The discount cannot be applied to previous transactions. Only people who are aged 65 and over at the time of service can obtain the discount.

Can a senior receive a refund for services completed prior to April 01, 2024?No. The Senior’s Discount program is not retroactive.

Does the senior’s discounts apply to credit card processing fees / merchant’s charges, etc.No. Senior’s discounts will only be applied to registry and GoA services. Any fees/charges that are not a GoA fee or registry agent service charge are not considered registry services.
