At Registry @ South Trail Crossing Ltd., we make it easy to obtain your Alberta driver’s abstract. Visit our Calgary office for fast, reliable service and a hassle-free experience. Whether you need a Standard or Commercial Driver’s Abstract, our knowledgeable team is here to help you get what you need—quickly and efficiently.
Types of Driver’s Abstracts
In Alberta, there are two main types of driver’s abstracts available, each serving a different purpose depending on your needs:
Standard Driver’s Abstract
This abstract provides a summary of your personal driving history and includes:
-
Current status of your Alberta driver’s licence
-
Conviction information (e.g., traffic violations)
-
Demerit points and suspensions
-
Personal details such as your name, address, date of birth, height, weight, sex, MVID, driver’s licence number and issue date, expiration date, class
Note: This abstract does not include the date you were first licensed or confirm your driving experience. It is commonly used for personal reference, insurance purposes, or when requested by employers not requiring commercial driving records. If an individual’s Alberta driver’s licence has been invalid for more than 6 months, the driver’s licence number, issue date, expiry date and class of licence will not appear on the abstract.

Commercial Driver’s Abstract
The Commercial Driver’s Abstract is tailored for professional drivers and includes:
-
All the information found in the Standard Driver’s Abstract (except for personal appearance details like date of birth, height, weight, and sex)
-
Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) Inspection results
Employers in the transportation industry often request this abstract to assess a driver’s safety record and compliance with commercial vehicle regulations.
Both types of abstracts are available for 3, 5, or 10-year periods, depending on what is required.

-
A completed Notarized Request for Personal Driving and Motor Vehicle Information form
-
A notarized photocopy of your photo ID with your legal name and date of birth
-
The driver abstract fee
-
A return pre-addressed, registered mail or courier envelope with prepaid postage or courier fees

Once we receive your documents, we will return the abstract to you by mail or courier at the address you provided in the application.
Asking Someone Else to Request an Abstract on Your Behalf
You can also have another person request an abstract for you. You will need to fill out the Driver's Abstract Consent and the individual representing you must fill a Driver's Abstract Statement of Intent form. You’ll also need a valid photo ID and must have an Alberta Motor Vehicle file.
Ordering an Abstract for a Minor
You can request an abstract for someone under 18 years old if you’re their legal parent or guardian. They will have to complete the Driver's Abstract Statement of Intent. You will also need to provide an acceptable photo ID.
Driver’s Licence History Report
A Driver’s Licence History report brings you information regarding all the driver’s licences that were issued to you in Alberta since May 20, 2003. Different from a Driver’s Abstract, a Driver’s Licence History is not focused on demerit points or suspensions. It contains dates of licence renewals, the licences you have held and the duration and exit day of your Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) during this time.
How to Obtain a Driver’s Licence History Report at a Registry Office
To order a Driver’s Licence History Report in person you will need to fill out an application and bring it to us. You will be required to fill the application form, as well as provide an accepted photo ID.
How to Obtain a Driver’s Licence History Report from out of Province
To request a DLHR while outside Alberta, you will need to fill a Notarized Request for Personal Driving and Motor Vehicle Information and notarize it. You will also need to sign and notarize a copy of an accepted photo ID and send the documents to us.
We will send your Driver’s Licence History Report to you by a return pre-addressed, registered mail or courier envelope with prepaid postage or courier fees
